![]() Mr. GS Schoonbee - Founder of Schoonbee Landgoed Schoonbee Landgoed is a picturesque farm, situated in the Loskop valley, Mpumalanga, in the Republic of South Africa. The main produce of Schoonbee Landgoed are high quality export table grapes and citrus. The primary objective of Schoonbee Landgoed is to work in balance with Fauna and Flora in order to maintain a high level of environmental awareness, without compromising production on the farm. All activities like: irrigation, chemicals, fertilizing and cultivation of land are done with great care to prevent pollution, erosion of land, harm to birds and small game. Our Citrus is cultivated on more than 550ha of land and our goal is to always market a very high quality to local and foreign markets. We start with our lemons in early February, followed by our Clementines, Navels, Scarlet Mandarins and finally our Valencia’s. The superb quality of our table grapes is well known and sought after in super markets throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. We produce a wide variety of grape cultivars on 220ha of vineyard. The farm is registered as an international base for the ringing of birds. Great care is given to protect the different habitats of local- and migrating birds. The farm has a potential list of approximately 470 species of birds, which include 83 migrants from the Pale arctic and Afro-tropical zones. Several species of fish have been introduced to our irrigation dams, namely Tilapia species which are indigenous, freshwater bass from America and common Carp from Europe. Quite often Hippopotami and crocodiles are spotted in the dams where they come to mate. About 600 workers are employed at Schoonbee Landgoed. Great effort is applied, ensuring positive and enthusiastic spirit in the workplace. As a result, a sense of teamwork is experienced and a high level of productivity is achieved. In 2002 Schoonbee Landgoed received Eurepgap accreditation, and was once again accredited IN JULY 2003 with Eurepgap. Schoonbee estates also achieved Tesco’s nature’s choice (Gold status) in 2003.
